An Email about Goal setting (I sent this to all of CFW)

As we close the chapter on this year's CrossFit Open, it's a time of reflection, not just on our performances but also on the journey we've embarked on. The concept of virtuosity, doing the common uncommonly well, is a guiding principle in CrossFit and something that's close to my heart. As we navigate the waters post-Open, let's use this opportunity to evaluate our goals and set our sights on the rest of the year.

The Open: A Mirror to Our Performance The Open is more than just a competition; it's a mirror reflecting our strengths, weaknesses, and areas needing growth. While some of us may not have performed as we had hoped, it's crucial to remember that every challenge faced is a lesson learned. Let's carry these lessons forward.

Virtuosity: Mastery in Simplicity Virtuosity, in CrossFit, is about mastering the fundamentals. It's a reminder that excellence isn't about flashy or complex movements; it's about perfecting the basics. As we set our goals for the rest of the year, let's embed the essence of virtuosity in them. Strive for perfection in simplicity, whether it's your squat technique, your dietary habits, or your recovery routines.

Setting Actionable Goals: Steps to Success

  1. Reflect on the Open: What did it reveal about your fitness level, technique, and mental toughness? Use these insights as a foundation for your goals.

  2. Focus on the Fundamentals: Identify key areas in your fitness and lifestyle that need attention. This could be working on your mobility, improving your lifting technique, or establishing better sleep patterns.

  3. SMART Goals: Make your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For instance, instead of vaguely aiming to 'improve endurance,' set a goal to 'increase rowing distance by 500 meters within the next two months.'

  4. Plan and Prioritize: Break down your goals into actionable steps. Schedule regular check-ins to assess your progress and make adjustments as needed.

  5. Seek Feedback: Regularly consult with coaches to get feedback on your technique and progress. Their expertise can help refine your approach to training and goal attainment.

  6. Journal Your Journey: Keep a training and lifestyle journal. Documenting your workouts, nutrition, and how you feel each day can provide invaluable insights and motivation.

  7. Celebrate Small Wins: Recognize and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Every step forward is a victory.

  8. Mindset Matters: Cultivate a positive, growth-oriented mindset. Embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and growth.

  9. Community Support: Lean on the CrossFit Williamsville community for support, encouragement, and accountability.

Invitation to Goal Setting Session To all our valued members, let’s take this opportunity to recalibrate and refocus. I invite you to set up a time to meet with me or one of our coaches for a goal-setting session. Together, we can map out a plan tailored to your aspirations and harness the spirit of virtuosity to guide us through the rest of the year.

The Open may have ended, but our journey is far from over. Let’s embrace the spirit of continuous improvement and set the stage for a year of growth, achievement, and community spirit.
